Lindy Swimm, MAE, LCSW, has a Master's degree in Art Education (majoring in Art Therapy) and a Master's in Social Work from Virginia Commonwealth University. Lindy brings over thirty years of experience to her work, and utilizes attachment theory, trauma work, family play therapy, and the expressive therapies to assist in creating developmentally appropriate service plans to meet specific needs of children and families. Lindy joined the League of Therapists in 2004.

Thistle Newcomb, NCC, LPC, graduated from Kansas State University where she trained in Counseling and Educational Psychology. Thistle has worked in: Residential Crisis Shelter for Adolescents, Juvenile Corrections, and Foster Care and Adoption Services through Charlottesville Department of Social Services. In 2007, Thistle joined the League of Therapists where she specializes in trauma, anxiety, attachment, and working with the child welfare system. Lindy and Thistle have been Clinical Director and Administrative Director of the Culpeper League of Therapists since 2009.

Culpeper League of Therapists offers these unique services:

  • EMDR with children and families. (A research validated treatment to resolve trauma and strengthen internal resources)
  • Cognitive behavioral play therapy
  • Individual and Family play therapy to work through traumatic experiences, and to increase positive parent-child relationships utilizing play, art, music, drama, narrative, sand tray and puppetry to install behavioral changes and learn new adaptive behaviors through sensory integration
  • Attachment education and information for parents
  • Attachment therapy
  • Therapeutic supervised therapy sessions with parents and child(ren) to assess attachment relationship and increase positive parent-child relationship
  • Working with the entire family, when safe, where domestic violence has occurred using attachment theory and workbooks created by Culpeper League of Therapists director to address violence in the home
  • Therapeutic services for child victims of sexual assault and services to resolve trauma that the entire family may have experienced as the result of a child sexual assault
